
Chiefs Sweep Kane County with Shutout Win

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs completed their second sweep of the season with a 4-0 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Monday afternoon. Starter Cam Greathouse pitched six innings of shutout baseball for the Chiefs' third consecutive quality start. Peoria improves to 17-14 on the season and 5-1 on the current homestand.
Greathouse and Leonel Santiago provided a great pitchers duel to begin the game as both teams traded zeros through the first five innings. Peoria broke through in the bottom of the sixth as Matt Szczur led off with a single into center field and advanced to second on Pierre LePage's sacrifice bunt. After Rubi Silva flew out to left, Richard Jones delivered with a RBI double into right-center field for a 1-0 lead.
The Chiefs added a run in the seventh frame that began with a walk issued to Smaily Borges. Arismendy Alcantara singled to right to put runners on first and second in front of D.J. Fitzgerald who laid down a sacrifice bunt to move each runner up a base. With one out in the inning, Elliot Soto delivered a RBI groundout to the Cougars' first baseman that brought Borges in for a 2-0 advantage.
Peoria scored its final two runs of the contest in the bottom of the eighth off Kane County reliever Chas Byrne. LePage walked to lead off the inning and stole second base before Silva brought him home with a RBI double. Micah Gibbs followed up with a RBI double of his own to score Silva from second for the final run of the game.
Greathouse (2-2) did not allow a run in six innings or work for his second win of the season. He allowed two hits and five walks while striking out five. Alvaro Sosa made his Chiefs' debut and pitched two innings in which he did not allow a run or a hit. He also walked one and struck out one. Marcus Hatley came on in the ninth in a non-save situation and ended the game with three straight strikeouts.
Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Cam Greathouse (LHP) - Greathouse pitched a gem for his second win of the year allowing just two hits over six innings of work. He did not give up a run for the second straight outing, while walking five and recording five strikeouts.
