Corona Promoted to Scranton/Wikes-Barre

(Binghamton, NY)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that INF Reegie Corona has been promoted from Trenton to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). Also, OF Edwar Gonzalez has been activated from the Disabled List and added to the active roster.

Corona has appeared in all 30 games for the Thunder this season with a .280 batting average, 20 runs scored, one home run and 10 RBI. The Caracas, Venezuela native is also leading the Eastern League with 25 walks, and is 3rd in the league with a .422 on -base percentage. In 2008, the 5-foot-11 switch-hitter batted .274 in 129 games for Trenton and was 4th in the league with 24 stolen bases. Corona was signed as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2003.

Gonzalez was placed on the disabled list on April 25 after suffering an upper body injury. Prior to being placed on the disabled list, the Miami, Florida native appeared in 13 games for the Thunder and batted .326 with nine RBI and a .426 on-base percentage. In 2008, the 5-foot-10 outfielder appeared in 104 games for Trenton, and batted .295 with a team-leading 14 home runs and 67 RBI. Gonzalez was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on June 12, 2002.

Trenton begins a five-game series tonight against the Binghamton Mets (Double-A Affiliate of the New York Mets). LHP Wilkin De La Rosa (1-0, 0.00) will start for the Thunder against Binghamton RHP Dylan Owen (0-3, 5.34). Trenton will return to Waterfront Park on Tuesday night to start a three-game series against the Akron Aeros (Double-A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians).
