CornBelters Beat Freedom in 12 Innings

Normal,IL-The Normal CornBelters stormed back from an 8-4 deficit on Wednesday night and outlasted the Florence Freedom 9-8 in twelve innings at The Corn Crib.

The Freedom built an 8-4 lead, but it was the CornBelters who would chip away starting in the sixth against Freedom reliever Steve Matre. Mike Mobbs hit a solo homerun to cut the deficit to 8-5. In the seventh, with two outs Tyler Shover and Mobbs produced back to back RBI singles against Brandon Mathes to cut the Freedom lead to 8-7.

The Freedom had their closer Jorge Marban on for the ninth inning but with two outs and with the CornBelters down to their final strike Shover hit a two run double over the head of right fielder Byron Wiley scoring Pat McKenna from first base to tie the game at 8-8 and forcing extra innings.

The Freedom only got one hit in extra innings which was a Jeremy Hamilton double. In the twelfth against Freedom reliever Brent Choban(2-3), the CornBelters loaded the bases with one out. With the infield pulled in, Keoni Manago bounced one over Edwin Padua's head at third base scoring T.J. Gavlik for the winning run.

Jose Trinidad(4-1) earned the win for the CornBelters out of the bullpen throwing four scoreless innings and striking out eight.

The Freedom and CornBelters will play the rubber match of their three game series Thursday night. The Freedom will have RHP Dan Jensen(4-1 3.00) on the mound. The CornBelterrs will feature RHP Michael Schweiss (0-0, 3.00). The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:45 pm on radio station 1320 AM and gospel1320.com.
