Schaumburg, IL - The Southern Illinois Miners were defeated by the Schaumburg Boomers 7-1 on Thursday night. The Miners are now 23-19 on the season and defeated the Boomers two games to one.
Southern Illinois took an early 1-0 lead off Boomers starter Mike Giovenco in the top of the first inning as Cory Harrilchak walked with the bases loaded and two outs to score Steven Liddle. Schaumburg scored three runs with two outs off Richard Sullivan in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead.
Schaumburg chased Sullivan out of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning as he allowed four runs to give the Boomers a 7-1 lead. Sullivan allowed seven runs and eight hits through three and 2/3 innings. Michael Carden pitched in relief and gave up just two hits in three and 1/3 innings. He recorded one strikeout.
John Colella pitched the bottom of the eighth inning for the Miners. He allowed two hits and recorded one strikeout.
The Miners return to Rent One Park on Friday as Blake Nation (5-0, 2.72 ERA) will take the mound against Joliet Slammers right-handed pitcher Evan Anundsen (4-4, 5.31 ERA). First pitch will get underway at 7:05 pm. Mike Ventola will have the call beginning at 6:45 pm with the Heartland Regional Medical Center Pregame Show on the Miners Radio Network, southernillinoisminers.com and ustream.tv.
