Joliet Slammers News Release

Last time out...

Seth Schwindenhammer hit two home runs and Shawn Kale was dominant in eight innings of work as the Joliet Slammers knocked off the Frontier Greys by a final score of 9-1 Wednesday night at Silver Cross Field. Joliet exploded for five runs in the third inning as Grant DeBruin delivered a clutch two-RBI single. He would score later in the inning on an error and Schwindenhammer smacked his first homer of the game, a two-run shot to make it 5-0 Slammers. Joliet tacked on a run in the fifth on a Nick Akins RBI single and two more in the sixth on a Marquis Riley two-run homer. Schwindenhammer would launch his second home run of the night the very next inning to make it 9-0 in favor of the Slammers. Meanwhile Kale went eight innings and gave up only one run on two hits. Kale struck out seven batters and did not walk anyone in the victory.

For Starters...

Matt Dillon is coming off a tough luck loss to the Rockford Aviators on June 27. He went six innings and only gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out six. But the Slammers lost 2-0. Dillon has pitched 11 innings this season and given up a total of two runs, but the Slammers have only scored one run overall in his two starts. Dillon went 11-1 with a 1.86 ERA during his senior season at Mount Olive College. He struck out 108 batters in 106.1 innings.

Power surge...

The Slammers hit three home runs last night, their most in one game this season. The franchise record for home runs in one game is four, accomplished three times during the 2011 season. Seth Schwindenhammer's two home runs tied the team record for most home runs by a player in one game.

Rubber match...

The Slammers will look to win their second consecutive series with a win in tonight's rubber match against the Greys. Joliet is 3-4 in rubber matches this season and 5-8 overall in series finales. The Slammers are looking to win their fifth home series of the year and sixth series overall.

Mixed results...

Last night's eight-run victory was the largest margin of victory at home this season but Tuesday's six-run loss was the Slammers' largest margin of defeat at home this season.

Save me...

Justin Erasmus is 8-8 in save opportunities this season and the Slammers have not blown a save as a team. They are undefeated when leading after seven.

Not so comeback kids...

Joliet has not come back from a deficit of more than three runs this year. However they have also not surrendered a lead of more than three runs.

Riley raking...

Rookie Marquis Riley is adjusting to professional baseball quite nicely. He is hitting .375 over the Slammers' past 10 games with a home run and eight RBI. Riley leads the Slammers with 12 multi-hit games and is hitting .298, first on the team.

Holding on...

The Slammers have posted an impressive 15-2 record when leading after six innings this season. However they are 2-22 when tied or trailing after six.

High five!

The Slammers are 13-2 when they score five or more runs. They are 4-22 when scoring less than five.

They gone!!

Slammers' pitching has struck out 308 batters so far this season; third most in the Frontier League. They have matched their franchise record for K's in one game (14) five times this season. They only struck out 14 batters in a game once before this season (last year in extra innings vs. London).
