CornBelters Bats Silent in 1-0 Loss

Normal CornBelters News Release

CRESTWOOD - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, could not dent the scoreboard and lost a pitchers' duel 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Standard Bank Stadium.

The ThunderBolts opened the scoring in the second inning with a pair of two-out hits, a double by Jareck West and an RBI single by Brandon Pearl.

The CornBelters threatened in the sixth when Robert Brooks led off with a double, but he was caught stealing third for the first out on a close and controversial play. Tyler Wiesemeyer walked on that play, then went to second on a base hit by Steven Felix, but the next two Belters were retired. Trey Manz drew a two-out walk in the ninth, but an infield popup ended the game.

Andrew Chilcoat (2-0) took the win with four innings of relief. Andy Mee earned his third save. Jacob Liedka (1-6) took a complete-game loss, giving up seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

The CornBelters return to the Corn Crib for a six-game homestand beginning Thursday at 6:30 p.m. to start a three-game series against the London Rippers. CornBelters left-hander Tyler Stovall (1-6, 5.47 ERA) is the projected starter. Pre-game on WJBC.com begins at 6:20 p.m. The Rippers stay in Normal for Friday and Saturday evening games, followed by another three-game series Sunday through Tuesday with the Southern Illinois Miners. Game time is 5 p.m. Sunday and 6:30 p.m. all other nights.
