Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL)- The Joliet Slammers and Gateway Grizzlies had the rubber game of their series cut short by thunderstorms Wednesday night, ending the game after seven innings, handing Gateway the 5-1 victory.

Gateway pounded away immediately at Joliet pitching, scoring three runs in the first inning off Slammers starter Jim Schult. Schult walked the first two runners of the ballgame, and Jerod Yakubik brought them around on a triple, and scored later on a Chris McClendon single. The Grizzlies tacked another on for the 4-0 lead in the second off a fielding error by Joliet, and took a five-run lead in the third on a solo home run by Rogelio Noris.

The Slammers added their run in the bottom of the third. With runners on the corners, Gateway botched a double play, allowing David Fox to score and crediting Patrick Norris with an RBI fielder's choice.

Jim Schult struggled for Joliet, surrendering five runs through six innings and taking the loss before Daniel Carela entered in relief prior to the rain.

The Slammers continue their six-game stint at Silver Cross Field Thursday against the rival Windy City ThunderBolts. Fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
