Miners Drop Last One in London

London, Ontario - The Southern Illinois Miners dropped the finale to the London Rippers by a score of 8-4. Miners starter Shawn Gilblair earned his third loss of the season has he pitched 3.2 innings giving up six hits and six runs (two earned). He walked six batters and struck out two.

The Rippers took an early 1-o lead off Gilblair in the bottom of the first inning when Joash Brodin hit a solo home run with two outs. The Miners tied the game at one off Rippers starter Brandon Sinnery in the top of the second inning when Will Block hit a base hit and RBI.

Heading into the bottom of the fourth inning with the game tied at 1-1, the Rippers scored five runs off Gilblair to take a 6-1 lead. Rippers outfielder Matt Wright hit a base hit and RBI with one out and Brad Agustin brought in two runs with two outs. Two errors were committed in the inning, one by Cannon Lester and the other by Will Block which allowed two more runs to score.

The Rippers scored another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jim Vahalik hit his first home run of the season off Darrin Tew to give the Rippers a 7-1 lead. London scored their final run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Tyler Hall hit a one out base hit to bring in Aaron Glaum off reliever David Whigham to give the Rippers a 8-1 lead.

The Miners scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning when Alvaro Ramirez hit a solo home run and Chad Maddox hit a two run home run off Brandon Sinnery to cut the lead to 8-4 in favor of London. Ross Davis pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Miners. The Rippers would go on and win the game 8-4.

With the loss, the Miners fall to 32-22 and trail Traverse City in the Eastern Division by five games. The Miners will welcome in the Washington Wild Things for a three game set. First pitch from Rent One Park will get underway at 7:05 pm.
