Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors defeated the Phoenix RoadRunners 3-2 Saturday night in front of 6,164 at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. G Michel Robinson made 38 saves for the win in his home debut for the Condors.
The Condors (9-20-6, 24 points) applied early pressure, but the RoadRunners (13-16-6, 32 points) got on the board first after Phoenix C Scott Kelman intercepted a Bakersfield pass and backhanded it past Robinson. The Condors continued to hustle, and it paid off at 11:49 of the first when LW Mark Derlago got his own rebound among three RoadRunners in the slot and pushed it into Phoenix's net, knotting the score at 1-1. Bakersfield RW Jason Kostadine followed Derlago's tally with one of his own just three minutes later, putting the Condors up, 2-1. However, Phoenix took advantage of a five-on-three power play late in the frame, and tied it at 2-2 with a goal from RoadRunners D Reagan Rome.
In the middle frame, the netminders for both teams kept the puck out of their nets, extending the tie through two. Robinson made 12 saves in the stanza, while Phoenix G Cody Rudkowsky stopped seven.
Midway through the third period, the Condors took advantage of a four-on-three power play, as D Kevin Truelson punished the back of Phoenix's net with a one-timer from the left point. C Tim Konsorada and F Sean Venedam registered assists on what proved to be the game-winning goal. Robinson made 15 saves in the third period, as the Condors went on to win, 3- 2.
Notes: D Kevin Truelson played in his 250th career game tonight, and with his goal tied Jeff Goldie for ninth on the Condors all-time points list with 121. D Reagan Leslie played his 150th career game Tuesday night. G Michel Robinson made 38 saves on 40 shots for his first win in a Condors jersey.
