Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - Jake Moreland stopped all 24 Phoenix RoadRunners' shots leading the Fresno Falcons to a 6-0 win on Sunday in front of 3,682 fans at Save Mart Center. The win extends the Falcons winning streak to six games, and their unbeaten streak to seven.
Fresno, which is 14-3-1 in its last 18 games, improves to 20-9-4 on the season, and moves to within nine points of Las Vegas for first place in the Pacific Division.
The Falcons scored the lone goal of the opening period just 2:57 into the game. Matt Quinn kept a Phoenix clearing attempt in at the left point, and moved the puck down the wall to Tyler Kindle. He centered a pass in front for Matt Stefanishion who was left all alone, and he one timed a shot past Cody Rudkowsky for his eighth goal of the year.
Fresno extended the lead with two goals just 29 seconds apart in the first 2:11 of the second period. Brady Leisenring was credited with a power-play goal at 1:42. Leisenring's blast from the right-wing circle hit off the post, then deflected off the back of Rudkowsky and sat free in the crease. The RoadRunners attempted to clear the puck, but the puck deflected off of Bryan Nathe and into the net to give Fresno a 2-0 lead.
Just 29 seconds later, Igor Gongalsky pushed the rebound of a Leisenring shot past Rudkowsky for his 12th goal of the year, giving the Falcons a 3-0 advantage.
Matt Quinn added an unassisted, shorthanded goal at 14:07 of the period to extend the lead to 4-0. Rudkowsky came out of net to beat Quinn to the puck, but the goaltender's clearing pass settled right back on Quinn's stick, and he put it into an empty net for his second of the season.
Quinn scored his second of the night at 16:47 of the third period, taking an outlet pass from John Morlang, and beating Rudkowsky with a quick wrister over the glove.
Kenny Bernard set the final, scoring his third of the year at 18:39, beating Rudkowsky from the near post.
The Falcons open a four-game road trip on Wednesday, with a 7:00 p.m. face-off in Stockton. Catch all of the action on 790 ESPN Radio, The Deuce, starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show at 6:45.
