Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

The Salmon Kings and the Wranglers concluded their two game set in Las Vegas on Saturday night. The first game was on Friday and saw Vegas jump all over the Salmon Kings and runaway with a 5-0 win. Victoria was playing for the split in the series.

Victoria came out with a jump in their step, and the flow was excellent as both teams went up and down the ice creating chances. The Kings scored on a power play when Nathan Barrett scored his first goal as a Salmon King. He pushed the rebound of a Ryan Wade shot into the net. Julien Ellis stopped all 11 shots directed his way and Victoria led 1-0 after the first period.

The Wranglers tied the game at 1-1 when Josh Sciba's shot went off the post, bounced off the iron, hit Ellis in the back and went into the net. The Kings responded 27 seconds later when Barrett fed Kiel McLeod a beautiful centering pass on a 3-on-2. McLeod knocked the puck past Wranglers goaltender Kevin Lalande to regain the one goal lead. Wes Goldie put the Kings up by two when he snapped a shot over Lalande's blocker in the top left corner. Victoria led 3-1 after 40 minutes.

The third period saw great end-to-end action with both teams getting chances. Vegas poured on the pressure, but Ellis held the fort for Victoria. Final score Salmon Kings 3 Wranglers 1.

The Salmon Kings went 1/3=33.0% on the power play and the Wranglers were 0/5=0%. Las Vegas outshot Victoria 33-23.

Victoria returns home on Tuesday to take on the Bakersfield Condors. It is the start of a five game in six day home stand for the Salmon Kings. It begins with a two game set versus Bakersfield, and then the Fresno Falcons come to the capital city for three games beginning on Friday evening. Call 220-7889 for tickets.
