Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that defenseman Daniel Rahimi has been recalled by the Manitoba Moose to the AHL.

Rahimi joins fellow Salmon King Dylan Yeo in Manitoba. Both players were called up this weekend. Yeo was recalled on Friday.

These promotions leave the Salmon Kings very shorthanded on defense, as both defensemen Gary Gladue and Darren Deschamps were befallen with injuries on Friday evening.

Gladue has been placed on the 3-day IR and is listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury. Deschamps is on the 30-day IR with a broken ankle. With the promotions, as well as the injuries, the Salmon Kings are down to only three active defensemen.

"Although this call up leaves us painfully short on defense," Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Dan Belisle said, "we are always happy when any of our players get the opportunity to move up to the AHL with the Moose."

"Every team in the ECHL goes through a period of time where they are shorthanded, and we are just going to have to weather this storm. The search for replacement defensemen has already begun, and we'll do our best."

This is Rahimi's second stint with the Moose this season. He was originally was promoted on October 20, 2007. The Canucks 2006 third round draft pick, 82nd overall, played in eight games for Manitoba collecting four minutes in penalties before being assigned to Victoria on November 27, 2007.

The 20-year-old is under contract to the Canucks, and played in one regular season game with the Moose last season. He also participated in four playoff games with Manitoba in 2006-07.

In 19 games with the Salmon Kings this season the native of Umea, Sweden has contributed 5 assists. He is a minus two with 14 minutes in penalties.

The Salmon Kings roster now sits at 19 players (12 forwards, 5 defensemen and 2 goalies).

Victoria returns home on Tuesday to take on the Bakersfield Condors. It is the start of a five game in six day home stand for the Salmon Kings. It begins with a two game set versus Bakersfield, and then the Fresno Falcons come to the capital city for three games beginning on Friday evening. Call 220-7889 for tickets.
