South Carolina Stingrays News Release

Beaumont, TX -The South Carolina Stingrays got three first period goals, by Trent Campbell, Matt Reid and Travis Morin to get out to a quick start against the Texas Wildcatters at Ford Arena, and that would be all they would need. The 4-2 victory over Texas snapped their 23 game regulation unbeaten streak.

"What a great win for us tonight," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "The guys came up big early and played hard for all 60 minutes. Definitely a nice way to end the road trip."

Head Coach Jared Bednar, as well as Captain Cail MacLean, said that in order for the Stingrays to have a chance in this game they would have to get out to a good start. They did just that as they took a 3-1 lead after the first period. Trent Campbell got the scoring started when he got his eighth goal of the season at 6:49 from Pierre-Luc O'Brien. It would become 2-0 when Matt Reid got his 12th goal of the year on the power play from O'Brien and Nate Kiser. Travis Morin got his 16th goal of the season at 19:11. The goal was unassisted and short handed. That was his second short handed goal in as many games, and his fourth of the year, tops in the ECHL. The Rays now have 11 short handed goals which is also an league best. Max Taylor got a five on three goal with just two seconds left to go in the period made it 3-1 by the end of the period.

The second period featured a number of chances, most of them for the Wildcatters, but in the end, neither team could score and it remained 3-1 after two periods.

In the third period the Wildcatters cut the lead down to one, but Marty Guerin got his eighth goal of the season on the power play from Kiser and Morin at 16:15 to salt the game away at 4-2.

The winning goaltender was Josh Johnson who stopped 39 of the 41 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Anton Khudobin who stopped 18 of the 22 shots he faced. The Rays went two for five on the power play while killing off four of the five short handed situations they faced.
