Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors beat the Phoenix RoadRunners, 4-2, Friday night in front of 6,212 at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield to extend their unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1). LW Mark Derlago produced his third consecutive two-goal game, leading the Condors to victory.

The Condors (12-20-7, 31 points) took the first lead of the game exactly five minutes into the opening period, as F Andrew Ianiero pushed a rebound into the back of Phoenix's (14-21-6, 34 points) net from the slot. C Tim Konsorada added to Bakersfield's lead with his team-leading 22nd goal of the year at 10:58 of the first frame.

Midway through a quiet second period, LW Mark Derlago delivered one of the highlights of the year for the Condors. After deking his way deep into the Phoenix zone, Derlago cut towards the goal and was tangled up by a RoadRunners defender. Derlago muscled his way closer to the crease, and as he was being taken down by the defender, wristed a shot from one knee into the top shelf of the Phoenix net, getting everyone out of their seats while putting Bakersfield up 3-0. The RoadRunners got on the board at 17:01, as they took advantage of a five-on-three power play and came away with a goal from C Peder Skinner.

In the third period, it was the Condors turn to capitalize on a two-man advantage, as Derlago netted his second goal of the game after the rookie winger found a rebound in the slot, stretching the Bakersfield lead to 4-1. Derlago's second tally made this his third straight two-goal game. Phoenix cut the Condors lead back down to two goals at 13:49 with LW Jeff Smith's first goal of the season. G Michel Robinson made a total of 44 saves, 24 of which came in the final frame, as the Condors held on to win by the final score of 4-2.

Notes: LW Mark Derlago extended his goal streak to five games, with eight goals during the streak and six in the last three games. C Tim Konsorada extended his point streak to five games and goal streak to four games (4g, 3a). F Sean Venedam extended his assist streak to five games, with six assists during that stretch. He recorded his 400th career assist tonight.

The Condors retake The Nest tomorrow night when the Idaho Steelheads come to Condorstown. The first 2,000 fans, 12-and-under, will receive a Condors Zamboni Piggy Bank, courtesy of Pirate Radio 93.1 and the Bakersfield Californian. Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m.
