Dayton Bombers News Release

Johnstown, PA- The defending American Conference Champion Dayton Bombers were not able to find back-to-back wins over division rival Johnstown with a tough 2-1 loss Saturday night at the Cambria County War Memorial.

Just twenty-four hours removed from a dominating 3-0 win over the Chiefs; Dayton found them in a dogfight early in the opening period, while starting Goaltender Rejean Beachemin would face a flurry of shots throughout. Johnstown's Joey Olsen notched the game's first goal on their first power play of the night at the 15:09 mark. The Bombers added several quality chances in the second half of the period, but remained scoreless at the break. Shots on goal favored Johnstown in the first 9-8.

Dayton found their higher gears in the early stages of the second period, picking up needed energy and scoring chances. Masahito Nishiwaki highlighted that point with his eighth goal of the season assisted by Mike Berry and Brad Bonello just 6:39 into the frame. Dayton would find multiple scoring chances throughout, but Johnstown goaltender Ryan Nie kept the Chiefs alive as Dayton posted 9 shots on goal. Johnstown managed 6 towards Rejean Beauchemin.

Johnstown's Randy Rowe took some wind out of the Bombers sails early in the third with his 14th goal of the season 5:09 in. Dayton continued to pressure the Chiefs, including several quality rushes but was unable to score the tying point in regulation. Johnstown outshot Dayton in the third 10-3 for a final tally of 28-23 Chiefs.

With the loss, Dayton's record now stands at 19-15-7 for 45 points and possession of fourth place in the North Division. Dayton now returns home for a Tuesday showdown versus Souther Division foe Charlotte Checkers at 7pm.
