TRENTON, NJ - In what has become a recurring storyline this season, Trenton and arch-rival Reading fought a low-scoring, defensively brilliant match. Eric Castonguay regained the team lead in goals scored, but the Royals would pull away with a 3-1 victory.

A scoreless first period sent both squads to the ice with renewed vigor in the second. Knowing that seven of the nine contests between the two squads were decided by one goal, neither team wanted to give up the first marker. In the end, Trenton wouldn't get the first tally, but couldn't complain.

A Kevin Saurette score 3:07 into the second frame gave Reading a one-goal lead, but Castonguay retaliated ten seconds later.

Racing into the attacking zone off the center-ice drop, Matt Radoslovich seared a puck across the crease to the twenty year-old forward. Castonguay one-timed the rubber into the empty net for his fourteenth goal of the season.

The newly-knotted score remained one-all until late in the third period. The Devils, unable to convert after several pucks rung off the pipes in a prior power play, found the puck in their own zone.

The Devils' netminder stood tall, stopping several shots in front of the crease after a coast-to-coast drive, but the third-chance rebound he gave up was enough for Chris Blight to net the game-winner. There was little a sprawled-out Caruso could do to stop the Reading attacker from sending it top-shelf.

Saurette picked up his second goal of the game when he fired a wrister into the empty net. The tally gave Joe Zappala, P.J. Atherton, and Saurette multi-point nights.

Jonathon Quick once again frustrated Trenton, making 43 saves in 44 chances for his 15th win of the season. Caruso made 31 saves on 33 shots in the tough-luck loss.

The Trenton Devils continue their homestand when they welcome the Wheeling Nailers at Sovereign Bank Arena Sunday, January 27 at 4:00pm. Tune into WBCB 1490 or go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
