Bakersfield Condors News Release

VICTORIA, B.C. - Mark Derlago scored twice and the Bakersfield Condors fired a season-high 53 shots on goal in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Victoria Salmon Kings in front of 5,802 fans at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria Wednesday night.

Despite most of the first period being played in the Victoria zone, the Salmon Kings (23-10-4, 50 points) held a 2-1 lead through 20 minutes. Jordan Krestanovich (at 6:05) and Nathan Barrett (at 11:02) both lit the lamp for the home team to make it 2-0 Victoria. The Condors (10-20-7, 27 points) penalty kill put them on the board soon after, as Tim Konsorada netted his 20th goal of the season, and fourth shorthanded, to make it 2-1.

Victoria extended the lead just 1:52 into the period with a tally by Kevin Estrada to make it 3-1. The Condors continued to fire away on Salmon Kings G Billy Thompson, rifling off 24 second period shots. D Joe Dustin found the back of Victoria's net in the middle stanza, pulling Bakersfield back within one. His second goal in as many games came off a face off and gave him seven on the season. The Condors led in shots 40-23 through two periods.

The Salmon Kings scored early in the third period to regain the two-goal advantage, but couldn't keep the Condors down. Mark Derlago scored his 11th of the season at 9:06 to pull Bakersfield back within a tally. In the final minute of play the Condors pulled G Michel Robinson for the extra attacker, and Derlago converted again, punching in a rebound with just 9.6 seconds left in regulation to tie it up. On the first shift of overtime, Estrada netted his second of the night to earn the extra point for Victoria.

Notes:F Tim Konsorada is tied for the league lead with four shorthanded goals. The team record for SHG in a single season is five, set by Jason Ralph in 2002-03.
