Former Gladiator Pelletier Made NHL Debut with Boston Tonight

Former Gwinnett Gladiator Pascal Pelletier became the sixth player, and the third this season, to advance to the National Hockey League after playing for the Gladiators after appearing in the Boston Bruins 3-2 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at the TD Banknorth Garden.

In his first NHL game, Pelletier was held scoreless with the Bruins. He appeared in 9:56 of ice time during the game on 17 shifts with Boston.

Pelletier appeared in 40 games with the Providence Bruins this season where he has collected 24 goals and 24 assists for 48 points while amassing 60 penalty minutes. Pelletier's 48 points led the Providence Bruins in scoring at the time of his recall.

Gwinnett acquired Pelletier in a trade with the Louisiana IceGators during the 2004-05 season. In 6 games after being acquired by the Gladiators, Pelletier posted one assist for Gwinnett. During the 2005-06 season, he was named an ECHL Player of the Week and led Gwinnett in scoring at the time of his recall to AHL Providence. In 21 games with Gwinnett during the 2005-06 season, Pelletier posted 30 points off of 18 goals and 12 assists.

The Labrador City, Newfoundland native finished the 2005-06 season with Providence where he collected 46 points in 53 American Hockey League games. Pelletier was the only player with Providence to appear in all 80 games during the 2006-07 season. He finished fifth in scoring with Providence posting 14 goals and 35 assists for 49 points.

Pelletier joins Kevin Doell (Atlanta) and Colin Stuart (Atlanta) who were called up to the NHL this season as well as Adam Munro (Chicago), Adam Berkhoel (Atlanta) and Michael Garnett (Atlanta) who all played for the Gladiators before appearing in the National Hockey League.

The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Friday, January 17th as they travel to North Charleston, South Carolina to take on the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. Catch all the play-by-play action in Friday's game on WDUN, News Talk 550.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
