
Condors battle back but fall, 4-3

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors scored three goals in a third period comeback attempt, but fell to the Ontario Reign, 4-3, before 7,916 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario Sunday evening. F Dave Bonk led the charge with a pair of goals in the final frame.
Ontario (23-14-3, 49pts) got out to a two-goal lead with a pair of first period tallies. C Tim Kraus opened the scoring at 10:15 in the opening frame, and was followed by a goal from RW John Rheault at 14:49. The Reign out-shot the Condors (13-23-6, 32pts), 9-8, in the first, and led 2-0 through the first 20 minutes.
Ontario added to its lead midway through the second period with a goal from RW Itan Chavira, making it 3-0. G Kellen Briggs, playing in his first game of the season, continued to keep Bakersfield off the board, stopping 14 more shots in the second stanza.
The Condors got on the board 10:11 into the final frame, when Bonk netted his first of the game on a one-timer from the right wing circle. Bonk struck again 4:17 later, wristing home his second of the period to pull Bakersfield within one, 3-2. Kraus put the Reign back ahead by two with his second of the game, when his centering feed deflected off a skate into the net at 16:43. Just 58 seconds later, LW Mark Derlago found the back of the net with a power play goal, bringing the Condors back within one, but Briggs and the Reign would hold on for the 4-3 win. G Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 23 of 27 shots in the loss.
Notes from the Nest:
The Condors remain on the road for a three-game series against the Wranglers in Las Vegas. The two teams will meet Friday, Saturday and Monday, with all three games starting at 7:30 p.m.
