
Jackals Down First Place Nailers, 4-1

Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals defeated the Wheeling Nailers, the top team in the North Division, tonight at First Arena by a 4-1 score. Jackals defenseman Guillaume Lepine recorded his first professional "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" with a goal, assist and fight in the contest.
The Jackals opened the scoring at the 2:23 mark when Paul McIlveen netted his 10th of the year on a Wes Cunningham rebound attempt. The early first period fireworks continued with a Chris Korchinski and Aaron Clarke fight at the 2:39 mark. The Jackals tacked on their second of the game at the 5:55 mark when Benoit Doucet snipped Jordan Alford high glove. Pierre-Luc Faubert and Josh Aspenlind assisted. The Jackals held a 2-0 lead and a 16-5 shot advantage after the first period.
The Nailers opened the second period with an unassisted Bryan Ewing goal, his 29th of the season at the 3:35 mark. The Jackals fired back with a Brian Ihnacak goal at the 14:29 mark. Guillaume Lepine and Paul McIlveen got the helpers on the play. The Jackals held a 3-1 lead through two periods, and dominated most of play with a 26-13 shot advantage.
The Nailers played hard in the third period testing Michael Teslak nine times, but couldn't find an answer to the hot goaltender. Teslak finished the evening with 22 saves. The Nailers pulled their goaltender with under two and a half minutes to play in regulation, Guillaume Lepine capitalized on the opportunity netting an empty net goal, the first of his career. The Jackals held on for a 4-1 win.
With the win the Jackals improve to 21-18-1-3 while the Nailers fall to 24-12-2-4 . The Jackals move back into fifth place in the North Division and now trail first place Wheeling by only eight points.
