
Wranglers Blast Salmon Kings 6-2

Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers® (17-17-4, 38 Points) defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings (28-11-4, 60 Points) 6-2 in front of 3,593 fans on Sunday afternoon at the Orleans Arena. Defenseman Dan Spang tied a team record with four assists in the victory. Wranglers forwards Mike Hamilton and Peter Fereraro each scored twice in the win. Center Chris Ferraro added a goal and two assists as Las Vegas improved to 11-7-2 at home this year. Las Vegas goalie Kevin Lalande stopped 37 Victoria shots for his fifth win of the year. Wranglers' defensemen Steve Makway tied a team record with a +5 rating. Forwards Wes Goldie and Chris St. Jacques scored in the Salmon Kings loss. Victoria goalie Julien Ellis was handed the loss, stopping 23 of 28 shots. Las Vegas and Phoenix will play at the Orleans Arena on Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
Las Vegas jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 12:31 of the game. Forward Mike Hamilton opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 6:45. Defenseman Dan Spang set up Hamilton's fifth goal of the season. At 9:15, Captain Peter Ferraro put in his seventh goal of the season. Spang set up Ferraro in the slot for his second assist of the night. Just 3:16 later, Chris Ferraro tipped in Dan Spang's shot from the point. Ferraro's 12th goal of the season gave the Wranglers a 3-0 lead after one period of play.
In the second period, Victoria center Chris St. Jacques cut into the Las Vegas lead with his tenth goal of the season. Dan Gendur and Dylan Yeo set up Victoria's power-play goal at 8:05 of the period, trimming the Las Vegas lead to 3-1 after two periods of play.
In the third period, Peter Ferraro tallied his second goal of the game at 1:43 to make it 4-1 Las Vegas. Chris Ferraro and Tyler Mosienko set up Ferraro's sixth goal in his last six games. The ECHL's leading goal-scorer, Wes Goldie trimmed the lead to 4-2 with his 34th goal of the season. Olivier Filion and defensemen Matt Kelly provided the assists on the power play at 9:45 of the third. With just over a minute remaining, Mike Hamilton sailed a puck from center ice into an empty net, padding the Wranglers lead up to 5-2. Hamilton's second goal of the game was set up by Mick Lawrence and Dan Spang. Kelly Czuy added to the lead with just 35-seconds left, scoring his third goal of the season.
Las Vegas will host Phoenix on Tuesday at 7:30 PM. The Wranglers host "Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich Prison Uniform Night" on Friday, January 30th against Bakersfield at 7:30 PM.
