Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Las Vegas, NV -The Victoria Salmon Kings and Las Vegas Wranglers met for the second time in as many nights on Saturday. It was the second of three games in three days between Victoria and Las Vegas. The Salmon Kings started Todd Ford in net while the Wranglers countered with Kevin Lalande.
Victoria hit the board first when Sean O'Connor found the rebound of a Chris St. Jacques shot sitting in the crease and tapped it in behind Lalande. Las Vegas tied the game up when Tyler Mosienko battled down the left side and slid a centering pass to Chris Neiszner. The Wranglers' forward took the puck in the slot and buried the one-timer past Ford. The teams would be tied 1-1 after the first period.
The Kings broke the tie early in the second when Darryl Lloyd and Curtis Billsten caught the Vegas goaltender behind the net with the puck. The two Kings stole the puck and threw it out front of the net. Shaun Landolt made no mistake taking the pass and buried it in the empty net. On a great individual effort O'Connor scores his second of the night. O'Connor chased the puck down the right side wall as it went into the right wing corner in the Wranglers' zone. O'Connor took the puck from the Vegas defenseman and skated in behind the net. He came out the left side on a wide wraparound and slipped it against the right post to increase Victoria's lead to two goals. Vegas would answer back when Shawn Limpright picked up a loose puck in the left wing corner in the Kings' zone. He slipped a pass through the slot area and found Neiszner all alone out front. He lifted the shot past Ford to cut the Kings lead in half with 24.9 seconds to go in the period. Victoria would lead 3-2 through 40 minutes.
The Salmon Kings held the Wranglers at bay in the third period. Ford stopped all 14 shots thrown his way. Chris St. Jacques added an empty net goal to seal the victory. Salmon Kings 4 Wranglers 2.
Victoria went 1/5=20% on the power play and Las Vegas ended 0/9=0%. The Wranglers outshot the Salmon Kings 40-21.
Victoria and Las Vegas conclude their three-game set tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m. PT. The Stockton Thunder then come to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Tuesday night to kick off two-game set both games start at 7:05 p.m.
