Wranglers score 6-2 win in matinee game

Las Vegas, NV -The Victoria Salmon Kings and Las Vegas Wranglers concluded their three games in three days set Sunday afternoon in Sin City. The Salmon Kings started Julien Ellis in net while the Wranglers countered with Kevin Lalande.

The Wranglers stormed out of the gates in the first period. Julien Ellis made the initial save on a Dan Spang point shot, but the rebound ended up on Mike Hamilton stick and he buried it past the Kings' netminder. It was a power play goal. Vegas made it 2-0 when a turnover in the Salmon Kings zone was collected by Spang he found Peter Ferraro who one-timed a laser beam past Ellis. The Wranglers made it 3-0 when Chris Ferraro tipped a point shot past Ellis. Las Vegas would take the 3-0 lead to the dressing room after the first period of play.

Victoria would respond in the second period when Chris St. Jacques found a Dan Gendur point shot that had bounced off the end boards and landed on his stick. St. Jacques deposited it in the open cage to cut the lead to 3-1. That would be the score through 40 minutes of play.

The Wranglers would extend their lead in the third period's first two minutes when Peter Ferraro netted his second of the game. Wes Goldie would add a power play marker, but the Wranglers would put it out of reach in the game's last two minutes by notching two more goals. Wranglers 6 Salmon Kings 2.

Victoria went 2/8=25% on the power play and Las Vegas ended 1/5=20%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Wranglers 39-29.

Victoria welcomes the Stockton Thunder to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Tuesday night and Wednesday night for a two-game set both games start at 7:05 p.m.
