
Comets Down Crunch in Shootout Thriller

Utica, NY - It was punch, counterpunch all night long Saturday night but the Utica Comets prevailed 5-4 in a shootout over the Syracuse Crunch at the Adirondack Bank Center. Carter Camper, Jonah Gadjovich, Lukas Jasek, and Reid Boucher were the goal scorers for Utica. Mikey DiPietro made 27 saves in the win.
Taylor Raddysh's slap shot from the top of the left circle put Syracuse ahead just 1:30 into the game. Camper tied the game up three minutes later, taking a drop pass from Boucher and firing a wrist shot past Scott Wedgewood. Mathieu Joseph put the Crunch back on top with a one-timer from the slot at the 5:30 mark of the opening frame. Gadjovich pounced on a loose puck in front to tie the game at two on the power play with 6:40 to go in the period. Peter Abbandonato put home a rebound to give Syracuse a 3-2 lead with 1:48 to go in the first.
Jasek evened the game at three 3:39 into the middle frame, taking a breakaway pass from Stefan LeBlanc and putting home his own rebound for the shorthanded strike.
Raddysh netted his second of the night five minutes into the third period to put Syracuse back on top 4-3. Boucher tied the game at the 8:59 mark of the third when he took a centering pass from John Stevens and beat Wedgewood low from the slot. Neither team found the net in the final 11 minutes and the game would go to overtime.
Despite chances on both ends, the two teams could not find a winner and the game would need a shootout.
Francis Perron and Alex Barre-Boulet traded goals in the second round of the shootout before Boucher scored the winner in the third round of the shootout to give the Comets two points.
