West Valley City, Utah - The Colorado Eagles (14-8-0-3) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (13-10-0-2) 3-2 Friday night at Maverik Center.
After a scoreless first period, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead 2:38 into second on a goal by Riley Nelson. Utah tied the contest 4:36 later on a Mitch Fadden wraparound for his ninth of the season. Paul McIlveen and Logan MacMillan picked up assists. The Eagles took a 2-1 lead with 22 seconds left in the second on another goal by Nelson.
The Eagles made it 3-1 5:33 into the third period and took the first two-goal lead of the night.
Shorthanded with 27 seconds left, Cody Lampl buried a centering attempt with Jeff LoVecchio and Justin Dowling picking up assists to make the score 3-2.
The Grizzlies won the ensuing face-off at center ice and had a couple of chances on the Colorado goal as time expired.
The Grizzlies and Colorado meet again Saturday in Loveland. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Utah is home next week for Family Night Monday, where kids under 12 will be admitted free and there will be $1 Food and Drink specials. Wednesday is another Wild $2 Wednesday with $2 Hot Dogs, Fries, Draft Beers and Soft Drinks. Students will ID will be admitted for $5.
