Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- With 31 goals out of the lineup due to injury or call-ups, including three out of their top four scorers, the Kalamazoo Wings post a season-high tying seven-goal effort en route to a 7-3 victory Friday night over the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Kalamazoo would jump out to an early lead at just the 1:27 mark, an important strike, considering that the K-Wings had over 30 goals either called up to the AHL or out of the line-up due to injury. Eric Kattelus was on the receiving end of a Darryl Bootland pass and put the puck into the back of the net for his third goal of the season. The point extended Bootland's point streak to five games.

Cincinnati would storm back with two of their own before the end of the period, starting with the tally by Maury Edwards. His second of the season on a long wrister tied the game at one apiece.

Cincinnati would give themselves their first lead of the evening 12:21 into the period. Dave Leaderer notched his first of the season in almost identical fashion to Edwards, on a long-range shot that beat Riley Gill over his glove hand.

The Cyclones scored first in the second period and gave themselves a two-goal lead using Mike Pelech's second strike of the season.

At the 13:27 mark of the second period, Kalamazoo would start their unprecedented hot streak. They scored five unanswered goals, starting with Trent Daavettila's (3rd) shorthanded goal on a quick wrist shot from the left side.

Just three and a half minutes later, Justin Taylor found the back of the net when he deflected a slap shot from Taylor Ellington. The goal for Taylor was his eighth of the season.

Just 52 seconds later, the K-Wings would light the lamp once again and take the lead back from the Cyclones. Bryan Haczyk used his speed to get around the Cincinnati defense and find the back of the net for his fourth of the season. Kalamazoo would take the one-goal lead into the locker room after two periods of play.

The third period started just how the second had left off. The K-Wings continued to have the hot sticks into the final stanza, starting with Mike Matczak's power play goal on a slap shot, it was his fifth of the season.

Just 42 seconds after the Matczak goal, it was Haczyk's turn again. He took a shot from a sharp angle along the left-wing side, and it hit off Cyclones goalie, Chet Pickard and went into the back of the net for Haczyk's fifth of the campaign.

Taylor closed out the scoring 15:11 into the period with a power-play strike. The goal was his second of the night and ninth of the season. Assisting on the tally were Darren Archibald and Ellington. Ellington finished the game tying a K-Wings' season-high with four points; however, he established a team season-high with four assists in a single game.

The victory extended the K-Wings regulation unbeaten streak to five games, going 4-0-0-1 during the stretch.

The K-Wings will remain home tomorrow, Saturday, December 17th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Elmira Jackals s during the 12th Annual WKFR Teddy Bear Toss Night, as well as a Saturday "Celebrity" Series game featuring Flippenout.
