IN JUST A FEW HOURS...
The Elmira Jackals meet the Chicago Express for the first time ever at 7:30 p.m. at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The Jackals enter the contest winners of seven of their last eight games and are tied for first place in the Atlantic Division with the Wheeling Nailers at 28 points. Chicago began play as an expansion team in the ECHL this season.
JACKALS MEET FORMER COACH, PLAYERS
The Jackals tonight will be seeing a former coach and some notable players from seasons past who are now with the Express. Express head coach Steve Martinson served in that same position with Elmira from 2007-2010 during the club's first three seasons in the ECHL. No current Jackals have skated under Martinson. Tyler Donati, who skated parts of four seasons with the Jackals from 2008-2011 and was the ECHL MVP in 2009-2010, leads the Express with 20 points and 16 assists. Chaz Johnson topped Elmira with 250 penalty minutes in 2007-2008 and paces Chicago with 10 goals. Pierre-Luc Faubert led the Jackals with 57 points in 2008-2009. Other former Jackals on the Express include Bobby Robins (68 games with Elmira), Nathan Lutz (42 games), Scott Wietecha (six games), and Brett Motherwell (two games). Drew Paris (30 games) began the season with Chicago and is currently with the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
DECEMBER FLIP FLOP
One season after putting together a 3-6-1-0 December, Elmira is 5-1-0-0 in the third calendar month of the regular season. The Jackals were 5-7-0-1 in December during the 2009-2010 campaign.
