December 16, 2011 - ECHL (ECHL)
Chicago Express News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, celebrated Teddy Bear Toss at the Sears Centre Arena with a goal from LW Chad Painchaud early in the first period en route to a 5-3 win over the Jackals on Friday night.

Chicago got on the board first at 4:34 when RW Tyler Donati threaded a pass to Painchaud who skimmed one off of the top crossbar and into the back of the net. Elmira answered back with a power play goal at 5:57 when Jackals D Craig Rivet pushed a shot into traffic and F Jack Downing redirected it past Chicago G Allen York to knot the game up 1-1. The Express answered quickly, however, as F Bobby Robins attempted a backhanded shot, got denied, and then blasted home his own rebound at 7:17 to regain the lead. C Aaron Marvin added to that total at 19:41 after D Nathan Lutz stole the puck in the offensive zone and fired a shot off the pads of Jackals G Brian Stewart. Marvin skated around the back of the net as Stewart was attempting to get back into position and slid it right past the Elmira netminder to increase the score 3-1. The Express outshot the Jackals 17-6 in the opening period.

Marvin extended the lead to 4-1 at 9:07 of the second period, tapping the puck into an empty net as Stewart was attempting to play the puck out of the net near the left face-off circle. It was the only goal scored in the frame, as G Allen York stopped 17 Jackals shots. Chicago ended the period with a 4-1 lead and a 26-23 shot advantage.

The Jackals pulled back to within two just under the halfway point of the third period, when F Jean Bourbeau netted his fourth goal of the season. Exactly six minutes later, at 15:01 of the third period, F Mike Radja intercepted a pass while shorthanded and F Dustin Gazely redirected his shot into the net. The goal brought Elmira back to within one with just under five minutes left in the frame. The Express held strong defensively, allowing F Bobby Robins to pick up his second goal of the night on an empty-netter with 1.4 seconds left in the game. G Allen York finished the contest with 29 saves in the win.
