Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

KALAMAZOO, Michigan - The Kalamazoo Wings (16-7-0-2) tallied six unanswered goals as they erased a two-goal deficit and went on to defeat the Cincinnati Cyclones (8-9-0-3) by a 7-3 final in front of 2,686 at Wings Stadium on Friday night.

The Wings drew first blood just 1:23 into the game when former Cyclone Eric Kattelus slid the puck past Cincinnati net minder Chet Pickard (L, 24 saves, 5-7-0-1) at the end of a two-on-one odd man break to give Kalamazoo a 1-0 lead. The Cyclones pulled even at the 5:20 mark when Maury Edwards' point blast eluded Wings goalie Riley Gill (W, 39 saves, 11-6-2-0) for his second tally of the season. David Leaderer followed at 12:21 with a goal from the point, giving the Cyclones a 2-1 edge heading into the first intermission.

The Cylcones extended their cushion at 5:57 of the second period when Mike Pelech potted his second goal of the season on the power play, making it 3-1 Cincinnati. Unfortunately, the Wings roared back with three goals of their own; Trent Daavettilla, Justin Taylor and Brian Haczyk all scored just over four minutes apart beginning at the 13:27 mark to grab a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes of play

Kalamazoo's offensive outburst continued in the third period as Matt Matczak blasted a point shot past Pickard for a power play goal at 5:01, making it 5-3 Wings. Then, just 42 seconds later, Haczyk banked a shot off Pickard's back and into the net for a commanding 6-3 lead. Taylor added another late power play goal at the 15:11 mark to cap a 7-3 win for the Wings.
