New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats got a fine start out of Taylor Cole but couldn't capitalize on it, falling in a 1-0, 11-inning squeaker to the Binghamton Mets Friday night at NYSEG Stadium.

Cole threw seven shutout frames for the Fisher Cats (63-66), who were only able to muster four hits in regulation and went 0-7 with runners in scoring position. The win was the third straight for the Mets (72-59), and helped them gain some breathing room on the rest of the contenders for the Eastern Divison's second playoff spot. Ryan Schimpf collected three hits for the Fisher Cats, including his 20th double of the season.

Neither team was able to break the deadlock in regulation, despite multiple opportunities for each side. The two teams stranded a combined 16 baserunners in regulation. In the bottom of the 11th, John Anderson (L, 6-6) issued a one-out walk to Vince Belnome, and Joe Benson singled him to third. The Fisher Cats intentionally walked Jonathan Galvez to load the bases, and the B-Mets countered by bringing in Gilbert Gomez as a pinch-runner at third base. Jared King sliced a sinking line drive to right-center field that Roemon Fields sped in on and made a sliding catch. However, his position was such that he couldn't make a good throw home, and Gomez sped to the plate to score the winning run.

Cole's no-decision was ill-deserved, as he fired seven shutout innings with four walks and four hits against five strikeouts. Gregory Infante threw two no-hit frames with two walks and three whiffs. Anderson took the loss, surrendering a run on two hits and two walks in 1.2 innings while recording one strikeout.

The Fisher Cats will try to get back in the win column Saturday night, with righty Conner Greene getting the ball for New Hampshire against Binghamton righty Rainy Lara. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m., and Ben Gellman has the radio call beginning at 6:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.

The Fisher Cats return home for the final homestand of 2015 on Monday, Aug. 31. The Future Red Sox, the Portland Sea Dogs will be in town with two Atlas Fireworks shows, free t-shirts and posters, and a retirement ceremony for the No. 29 in honor of New Hampshire legend Chris Carpenter. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com, by calling (603) 641-2005, or by visiting the team box office at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
