
Fightins bats sink Baysox

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Fightin Phils (76-55) came out swinging on Friday night as they beat the Bowie Baysox (74-57), 9-4. The Fightins recorded 16 hits and their magic number for the postseason is now at 3 games.
The Baysox jumped out to a 1-0 lead over the Fightin Phils in the top of the first inning as Quincy Latimore hit a two-out RBI double off Joely Rodriguez. Reading bounced back in the bottom of the second inning as Art Charles tied the game with a RBI single off Baysox starter Joe Gunkel. Brian Pointer and KC Serna hit back-to-back singles to extend the lead to 3-1.
Bowie tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third inning off Rodriguez as Trey Mancini hit a two-run home run with two outs. Glynn Davis gave the Baysox a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning as he hit a two-out RBI single off Rodriguez. Rodriguez left the game after 4 2/3 innings and Reinier Roibal came into the game.
Reading tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning as newcomer Dylan Cozens hit a sacrifice fly off Gunkel that scored Serna with one out. The Fightin Phils took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as KC Serna hit a sacrifice fly off Baysox reliever Ashur Tolliver to break the tie then Rene Garcia hit a RBI single for the second run of the inning.
Crawford singled off Baysox reliever Andrew Robinson in the bottom of the eighth inning and with one out Brock Stassi hit a single. Dylan Cozens hit his first double-A home run as he crushed a three-run home run off Robinson that extended Reading's lead to 9-4.
Roibal (6-1) tossed 2 1/3 shutout innings for his sixth win of the season. He struck out five batters while giving up one hit. Joe Gunkel (9-5) took the loss as he allowed five runs in 5 1/3 innings. Edubray Ramos tossed a scoreless top of the eighth inning. Stephen Shackleford recorded one strikeout in the top of the ninth inning to finish out the game.
The Fightin Phils and Baysox will play on Saturday night. First pitch is at 6:35 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:05 pm. Fans can also watch the game on MiLB.tv at 6:35 pm.
