Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Clinton LumberKings (Seattle Mariners) swept a doubleheader against the TinCaps at Parkview Field on Sunday afternoon. In the completion of a game that was suspended on Saturday night because of rain, Clinton prevailed, 7-5, and then took the finale, 4-2.

Fort Wayne (13-16, 45-53) trailed 3-0 as Sunday's action began with the bottom of the second inning. Clinton (17-12, 56-43) had scored three runs in the top of the second in the pouring rain last night.

The TinCaps pulled to within a run in the bottom of the third inning as catcher Luis Campusano and second baseman Esteury Ruiz both delivered two-out RBI singles. But the 'Kings expanded their lead to 7-2 with a four-run barrage in the fourth that began with a solo home run by Ariel Sandoval.

The 'Caps rallied with another pair of runs in the sixth and one in the seventh on a run-scoring single by first baseman Nick Feight that made it 7-5, yet that's as close as they'd get.

Campusano finished the game with three hits, including a double.

After a 30-minute intermission, the TinCaps got on the board first in "Game 2." In the bottom of the first, Campusano came through with another two-out RBI single, plating Ruiz, who had doubled. Campusano had two hits as he DH-ed.

The LumberKings, however, scored three unearned runs in the second and added another unearned run in the third to lead 4-1.

Osvaldo Hernandez was Fort Wayne's starter. The 20-year-old from Cuba lowered his Midwest League leading ERA to 1.97 with five innings of work, not allowing an earned run. Hernandez struck out seven for his second-highest strikeout total of the season.

The TinCaps cut into their deficit in the sixth thanks to an RBI single by shortstop Gabriel Arias. But again, Fort Wayne was unable to pull any closer.
