
LumberKings take a pair for third straight

Fort Wayne, IN (July 21, 2018) - The Clinton LumberKings collected their third straight series win with a pair of wins against the Fort Wayne TinCaps on Sunday afternoon at Parkview Field. Clinton (17-12, 56-43) took the first game, suspend on Saturday night, 7-5 before dropping Fort Wayne (13-16, 45-53) 4-2 in seven innings for their third straight win.
GAME ONE
The LumberKings opened the first game in the bottom of the second inning leading 3-0 wit Scott Boches taking over on the mound.
The TinCaps got to Boches in his second inning of work, the bottom of the third, for a two-run rally that pulled them to within one. Both runs scored with two out in the inning. Luis Campusano initiated the scoring with an RBI single to center and Esteury Ruiz followed with an RBI single to cap the rally.
In the top of the fifth inning, Clinton broke out for a four-run outburst. Ariel Sandoval led the inning off with a solo home run to left for his 14th home run of the year. Keegan McGovern, in part of a three-hit game at the plate, chased home a run with an RBI single and Rainis Silva capped the scoring with an RBI single through the left side of the infield.
MacKenzie Gore was given the loss for Fort Wayne for a two-inning outing in which he allowed the LumberKings first three runs of the game before rains forced the suspension. Gore (1-5) allowed two hits while walking two and striking out four.
The TinCaps added their second two-run rally of the game in the sixth inning to chase Boches from the game. Sam Delaplane (4-0) came on in relief and picked up the win for a 2.1 inning outing in which he allowed just one run on three hits while walking none and striking out five.
Leading 7-5, the LumberKings gave the ball to Collin Kober to work the bottom of the ninth. He did not allow a TinCap to reach in the inning as he registered his seventh save of the season while striking out two.
GAME TWO
In a seven-inning affair in the back end of a doubleheader, the LumberKings made it two straight for the day with a 4-2 win.
Steven Moyers started for Clinton and threw five strong innings against Fort Wayne to pick up his third win of the season. He allowed one run on five hits during his time out, allowing five hits while not walking a batter and striking out four.
The TinCaps only run scored against Moyers (3-0) came in the bottom of the first. Ruiz doubled with one out and then scored two batters later on a Campusano RBI single.
In the top of the second inning the LumberKings answered against TinCaps starter Osvaldo Hernandez. Eugene Helder reached on an error and Onil Pena walked to set the table for the LumberKings first hit of the game, a Juan Camacho three-run homer to left.
Camacho's third home run of the season was enough to hang Hernandez (7-4) with the loss. Over his five innings of work he allowed four runs, all unearned, on six hits while walking one and striking out seven.
Ryan Costello added the LumberKings last run of the game in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly to right for his Midwest League leading 70th RBI of the year.
Kyle Wilcox recorded his second save of the road trip and fifth of the season with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh inning.
The LumberKings have now won three straight games and will try for their first three-game series sweep of the TinCaps in Fort Wayne in franchise history tomorrow night.
The LumberKings will conclude their three-game series with the TinCaps on Monday night. Clinton will throw right-hander Randy Bell (2-2, 7.48) while the TinCaps will tap lefty Ben Sheckler (1-2, 3.40). Game time is slated for 6:05 PM (CDT).
