Dayton Dragons News Release
Beloit, Wisc. - Dayton pitchers Adrian Rodriguez, Ryan Nutof, and John Ghyzel combined to scatter seven hits and allow just one run as the Dragons defeated the Beloit Snappers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons evened the series with the Snappers, who lost for just the third time in their last 17 games. The two clubs will meet in the rubber match of the three-game set on Monday afternoon.
The game was tied 1-1 after seven innings when the Dragons put together a scoring chance in the top of the eighth. Malik Collymore singled to center field to start the inning and Mark Kolozsvary was hit by a pitch. Leandro Santana sacrificed the runners to second and third and Alejo Lopez walked to load the bases with one out. J.D. Williams hit a ground ball that Beloit shortstop Nick Allen fielded going to his right, but Collymore scored as Allen tagged out Kolozsvary on a fielder's choice play to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead.
Nutof worked out of a jam in the eighth inning and Ghyzel pitched a perfect ninth, striking out the last two batters, for his 17th save of the year. Nutof, who threw three scoreless innings, earned the win to improve his record to 5-1.
Rodriguez started the game and worked five innings, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Beloit took a 1-0 lead in the fourth before the Dragons tied the game in the fifth. Lorenzo Cedrola singled with one out, stole second and third, and scored with two outs on Collymore's infield single.
The Dragons finished with 11 hits. Lopez was 3 for 3 to lead the attack. Collymore had two hits, a run batted in, and a run scored.
The Dragons improved to 14-16 in the second half. They began the day one game behind Fort Wayne and Lake County for the wildcard position in the Midwest League East Division Second Half playoff chase. Beloit fell to 19-9 in the second half.
