
Pearce Pierces Bandits Hopes in 6-4 Win

DAVENPORT, IA -Jordan Pearce homered and roped a go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning as the West Michigan Whitecaps defeated the Quad Cities River Bandits by a score of 6-4 in front of 2,726 fans Sunday night at Modern Woodmen Park.
Pearce is batting .461 (6-for-13) during the Whitecaps five-game road trip with two doubles and a home run while driving in five.
Two batters into Sunday's contest, the Whitecaps took a 2-0 lead when Kody Clemens launched a towering two-run home run down the right field line, his third of the year, to open the scoring in the game. Pearce doubled the advantage in the third with a two-run shot of his own, his fourth of 2018 to extend the lead to 4-0. Quad Cities rallied to tie the game with a pair of runs in the third highlighted by a solo home run by Seth Beer - the Houston Astros first-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, and two more in the sixth to even the score at four. One inning later, Pearce laced his two-out, two-run double off the base of the right-field wall to put the "Caps ahead by a score of 6-4.
Whitecaps reliever Billy Lescher (2-0) worked 2.2 scoreless frames in relief to earn his second victory, while Tanner Duncan (2-3) gave up two runs out of the Quad Cities bullpen in suffering his third loss. Will Vest pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save of the season. The Whitecaps record moves to 49-50 this season while sporting a 13-16 mark in the second half. The River Bandits fall to 14-15 in the second half while sending their record to 54-45 overall. Pearce led the way for West Michigan with two hits and four RBI, and Clemens reached base four times in the victory.
