Buffalo Bisons News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - The bottom of the Buffalo Bisons batting order, led by Rochester native Ernie Clement, combined for six hits and four RBIs to help pace the team to a 9-6 victory over the Rochester Red Wings on Sunday afternoon at Innovative Field.
Clement and Stevie Berman each reached base in their first four plate appearances and scored a pair of runs in the series finale victory. Clement's first RBI of the day came in the top of the second inning with a fielder's choice that cashed in Vinny Capra from third base. An errant throw allowed Rob Brantly to score on the play as well, giving the Bisons a 2-0 lead.
Drew Hutchison worked three innings in his second start for Buffalo. The veteran righty allowed three hits and one run while walking four and striking out two. Five different Bisons relievers combined to cover the next six innings, including Paul Fry. The lefty was credited with his first win of the season with a pair of scoreless relief frames, and Brandon Eisert recorded his first career Triple-A save.
The Bisons' lead ballooned to 5-1 with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Once again it was the bottom two hitters in the order getting on base before Otto Lopez drove them in with a two-run double. Lopez scored one batter later on an Addison Barger base hit.
Clement's big day at the plate continued in the top of the sixth inning when he launched a two-run home run over left field. His second homer of the season, in front of friends and family, extended the Herd's lead to 7-2.
It would grow by two more runs in the top of the seventh, as well. Capra and Berman each added RBI base hits to push the lead to 9-2 midway through the inning.
However, the Red Wings were able to score four times in the bottom of the seventh to draw within three runs, 9-6. Rochester sent seven men to the plate in the inning, including Franklin Barreto who belted his fourth homer of the series. His two-run home run came off of Jay Jackson in relief.
The Bisons out-hit Rochester 11-10 in the win, bookending the six-game series with victories against their International League East foes. Buffalo won two of the six games in the Flower City and will not enjoy an off day on Monday before welcoming the Iowa Cubs for a six-game set at Sahlen Field starting on Tuesday night.
