Spokane Chiefs News Release

Red Deer, AB - The Spokane Chiefs continued their Central Swing on Wednesday Night, playing in Red Deer for the first time since March of 2020. Newest Chief Shea Van Olm joined the team en route after being acquired from Kamloops prior to the trade deadline.

The Rebels would take a one goal lead into the first intermission thanks to a goal at 4:49 from Formanek. It was his 9th of the season, with assists from Josephson and Larson.

The second period also featured just the one score, but this time it was a beauty from Chiefs' AP Mathis Preston at 17:58.

The Chiefs worked the puck around on the power play before Preston ripped it from the left circle. It was the forward's second career goal in just three career WHL games so far. Harrington and Feist aided the goal with assists.

The Rebels added a pair of quick fire goals at 2:06 and 2:53 in the third period to jump out to a 3-1 lead. Drancak and Roberts added their names to the score sheet with the goals.

Spokane would build pressure late and pull goaltender Dawson Cowan but could not find a way to break through and start the comeback.

Spokane was outshot 34-25 with Cowan making 31 saves. The Chiefs went 1/5 on the power play but were perfect on the penalty kill going 4/4.

Tomorrow will serve as an off-day before Spokane is back in action for a matinee in Calgary versus the Hitmen on Friday.

The Chiefs will return to the Spokane Arena on January 19th for Gonzaga Night, Pride Night, and the Fred Meyer Wall Calendar Giveaway.
