Tri-City Americans News Release

The Americans continued their Eastern Conference road trip on Tuesday in Swift Current as they fell 6-2 to the Broncos at the InnovationPlex.

2006-born goaltender Eric Kahl made his first WHL start in net tonight for the Americans. The Saksatoon, Sask. native had a strong debut as he turned aside 35 of 41 shots faced.

Tonight marked the Americans first visit to Swift Current since February 2020 as the two teams faced off in their only head-to-head game of the season. Kahl turned aside Swift Current's first nine shots of the game before Rylan Gould scored on the power play to open scoring 9:45 into the game. With just one minute remaining in the period, Arizona Coyotes prospect Conor Geekie scored his first goal as a Swift Current Bronco to extend their lead to 2-0. Tonight was Geekie's debut with Swift Current after being acquired by the Broncos in a trade with Wenatchee on Thursday. First period shots were 17-10 in favor of the Broncos.

The Americans came back stronger in the second period. Nick Anisimovicz put Tri-City on the board 6:30 into the middle frame as he drove down the ice and past Broncos defenseman Ryan McCleary. The 17-year-old Americans forward scored with a sharp shot from the right circle over the blocker of goaltender Joey Rocha. Tri-City continued to control the second period as Parker Bell scored with a quick shot from the high slot to tie the game at 2-2. Tri-City's momentum slowed after Bell's goal as Connor Hvidston scored soon after to take back the lead for the Broncos. The score held at 3-2 heading into the second intermission. Tri-City led shots-on-goal 15-11 in the middle frame.

Swift Current regained control in the third period as Caleb Wyrostok, Clarke Caswell, and Josh Filmon scored to extend their lead to 6-2. Tri-City was unable to find another goal throughout the night. The Broncos outshot the Americans 13-9 during the last 20 minutes.

Tri-City will continue their Central Division road trip on Thursday in Edmonton.
