Wenatchee, WA - The Tri-City Americans (3-4-0-1) scored 52 seconds into the game and held a lead the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Wenatchee Wild (2-5-1-0) Sunday night.
Much like the night before, the Americans opened the scoring early. Just 52 seconds after puck drop, David Huk skated into the Wenatchee zone on left wing and took a wrist shot that appeared to handcuff Wild goaltender Tobias Tvrznik, giving Tri-City an early lead.
Koji Gibson hit the post twice over the remainder of the period, and while it took Wenatchee 12:30 to register their first shot on net of the game, Ryan Grout had to make a few key stops in the back half of the period to keep Tri-City ahead 1-0 through 20 minutes.
After a slow start to period two, the offense picked up. Huk made a great defensive play in the neutral zone to break up a pass across the ice before feeding it ahead for Crew Martinson.
He gained the Wenatchee line and floated the puck toward the net where Cruz Pavao was heading, and Pavao took the pass and lifted a shot over the shoulder of Tvriznik for his third goal of the year 8:35 into the second period.
Shortly after the goal Tri-City went to the first power play of the game, but it was the Wild taking advantage. Eli McKamey went to fire the puck on goal from the high slot, but fanned on the puck and couldn't find it in his feet.
Grady Wedman poked it out to center and took off on a breakaway, beating Grout over the glove for a shorthanded goal 9:52 into the second period.
Just over four minutes later the Americans regained their two-goal lead. Aden Bouchard carried the puck into the Wenatchee zone on a two-on-one rush and shot from the left circle. Tvrznik made the save but didn't have the rebound covered, and Bouchard poked it into the open net for his second of the year. The goal came at 14:03 and was assisted by McKamey and Alex Laing.
In the final minute of the period Pavao had a centering pass from Dylan LeBret deflected off his leg and into the goal for his second of the game, putting the Americans ahead 4-1 heading into the final period.
Despite some power play time for Tri-City in the third, no more goals were scored in the game as the Americans picked up the 4-1 victory. Grout had a strong night in goal with 29 saves for his first victory of the season.
The win marked the first time since March 17-19, 2023, that the Americans won all three games of a three-in-three weekend.
Tri-City is now off until Friday when they host the Everett Silvertips at the Toyota Center for a double header next weekend.
