Chiefs Provide Fireworks with Second Straight Walk-Off Win

Peoria, IL- Alex Iadisernia was the hero on Monday at Dozer Park as his walk-off single lifted the Chiefs to a 3-2 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels

Iadisernia came up with runners on first and second and one out, ripping a single into center field off Miguel Rodriguez to win the game.

The Chiefs took the final two games of this series in walk-off fashion to salvage a series split.

Right-hander Ian Bedell continued his dominance on the mound as he struck out a career-high eight batters in 6 2/3 innings of work. Bedell has not allowed a run over his last four outings, spanning 18 2/3 innings.

Bedell allowed just one hit and one walk, both coming in the top of the third inning. Then a double play kickstarted a run of 10 in a row retired to finish his outing.

The Chiefs had five hits in the ballgame. Darlin Moquete hit a solo home run off Kernels starter Christian MacLeod to make it 1-0.

Then in the fifth, Moquete doubled to start the inning. He scored on a Francisco Hernandez single to make it 2-0.

MacLeod went 5.2 innings, allowing just two runs on four hits, issuing two walks and punching out seven.

The Kernels bats awoke in the ninth against Chiefs reliever Gustavo Rodriguez. Tanner Schobel led off with a double to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. After a strikeout, Jorel Ortega singled to make it a 2-1 game. After a flyout, a walk pushed the tying run to scoring position. Roy Garcia entered and allowed the game tying single to Jose Salas, knotting the contest at two.

All six games in this series were decided by one run. Peoria is now 19-12 in one-run games in 2023.

The Chiefs improve to 39-36 and 6-3 in the second half as the Kernels are now 45-30 and 5-4 in the latter half. Peoria hits the road to take on the South Bend Cubs with the series opener set for tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. CST.
