Spokane Chiefs News Release

Everett, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs took down the Everett Silvertips for the first time this season in dramatic fashion as they completed a comeback 4-3 victory in the shootout on enemy ice.

The first period was a defensive battle, as the frame went scoreless after Michaluk stopped all 12 Everett shots faced. But once the Silvertips opened the door the momentum stayed on their side for most of the game.

It started at 10:12 in the second period when Raphael Pelletier notched his 13th of the season. The Chiefs managed to stop Everett from capitalizing on a man advantage a few minutes later and went into the second break down just one goal.

The Silvertips tilted the ice in their favor with back-to-back goals by Ben Hemmerling at 3:59 and Austin Roest at 6:49 to go up 3-0.

Spokane wasn't going down without a fight, though, as Cade Hayes and Berkly Catton tacked on back-to-back goals of their own just 16 seconds apart. Will McIsaac and Catton earned assists on the Hayes goal, while Chase Bertholet and Mac Gross got the helpers on Catton's.

It was Hayes who ultimately forced overtime when he scored his 16th goal of the season to tie things up at 3 apiece at 15:22 with help from Raegan Wiles and Catton.

Catton finished with his second-straight three-point night (1G-2A in each game) and is now ranked fifth among Western Hockey League rookies with 16 goals and 24 assists for 40 total points over 47 games.

Neither team found the twine in the bonus frame, leading to a shootout battle for the extra point.

Everett took a quick advantage as they scored in the opening round, while Hayes missed his chance at the net. The Chiefs went on to score in four straight rounds with goals from Tommaso De Luca, Berkly Catton, Carter Streek and Chase Bertholet. Bertholet's game-winner marked the first time Spokane has won back-to-back games since opening weekend in Victoria and the first time they have defeated the Silvertips in the 2022-23 season.

Cooper Michaluk earned third star honors after turning away 47 Silvertip shots, including a perfect seven in the five-minute overtime period followed by an extra two in the shootout.

Spokane went 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

Up next, the Chiefs travel back east to take on the rival Tri-City Americans Saturday night in Kennewick.
