Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs together with EP Global Communications, publisher of Exceptional Parent magazine, and Mass Mutual Central Illinois Agency and its Special Care Planning Division will be hosting Disability Awareness Night on Thursday, July 17 as the Chiefs face the Lansing Lugnuts at 7:00 pm. July marks the anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which guarantees independence for people with disabilities. Disability Awareness Night with the Chiefs is planned to call attention to the needs and accomplishments of people with disabilities as well as their advocates.
Mass Mutual will be donating 250 tickets to the families of children with disabilities in Central Illinois through the Easter Seals organization. Also, the Chiefs will be partnering with several community organizations that work with people with disabilities, including Easter Seals, Community Workshop, Peoria Production Shop, and PARC. These groups along with Mass Mutual's Special Care Planning Division will have information tables on the concourse to increase awareness of the lifelong opportunities that people with disabilities have in Central Illinois. Some of these opportunities include early childhood support, support for adults over the age of 18, housing opportunities, career opportunities, and financial planning support.
EP Global Communications will be presenting the Exceptional Parent Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award at 6:40 pm prior to the game. Named after the late founder and editor-in-chief of Exceptional Parent, the award will be presented to recognize the honoree's advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities.
O'Brien Field is fully compliant with all ADA requirements. The stadium, including all three levels and all of its amenities, is fully accessible to all people with disabilities.
The Chiefs will face the Lugnuts on Thursday in the second game of the three-game series, the first at home in the month of July. Thursday will be a Peoria Chiefs Kids Club Day, featuring an ice cream social and a tour of O'Brien Field before the game for all members of the Kids Club. Tickets are available by calling 1-800-MYTICKET, online at www.peoriachiefs.com, or by visiting the O'Brien Field Box Office.
