Chicago Sky News Release

CHICAGO, June 2, 2011 - Chicago Sky Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman announced today that forward Shameka Christon has been waived from the team.

"It's an unfortunate set of circumstances, yet it's the nature and reality of sports," said Chatman. "Meka, was obviously someone we were looking forward to returning back to form and helping us reach our goals."

Christon, a former all-star while playing for the New York Liberty, played in 10 games for the Sky in 2010 averaging 8.5 points and 2.4 rebounds before an eye injury sidelined her for the remainder of the season.

"Although she's had an unbelievably difficult year considering her eye, concussion, and knee," continued Chatman. "I'm positive she will find the resolve to bounce back. We wish her all the best on her road to recovery."

Christon, a former Arkansas Razorback, was originally acquired by the Sky in March 2010 following a trade with the Liberty, where she had played for six seasons.

Chicago starts the regular season on Saturday, June 4 in Indiana versus the Fever. The team's home opener is set for Friday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Allstate Arena versus the Connecticut Sun.
