
Checkers Scott Meyer Wins ECHL Monthly Award

(PRINCETON, N.J. â Wednesday, March 5, 2003) Scott Meyer of the Charlotte Checkers is the Sun National Bank East Coast Hockey League Saver of the Month for February. The 26 year-old Meyer was 6-2-0 with two shutouts and a 1.94 goals against average as ! Charlotte went 8-4-0 in February. He had a .932 save percentage (204-for-219) in the month, ranking him second among ECHL goalies with at least 300 minutes in February.
Checkers Head Coach and General Manager, Don MacAdam, commented on Meyer's selection by the ECHL. "Scott's one of our key players that's been playing really great this season. He's the sort of guy a team can count on to get the job done."
He is 17-5-0 overall and ranks fourth in the ECHL with a 2.62 goals against average and is tied for fourth with four shootout wins. The 6-1 and 185-pound Meyer posted back-to-back wins against Reading to open the month. He had 28 saves in a 3-2 win at Reading on February 1, and in a 5-4 shootout win against Reading on February 4 he made 22 saves and stopped four of the five shooters in the shootout. He made 30 saves in a 5-2 win against Greensboro on February 11, and had 24 saves in his first shutout of the season, an 8-0 win against Richmond on February 14.
Meyer made 31 saves in a 2-1 loss to South Carolina on February 15 and 24 saves in the first two periods in a 4-1 loss to Columbia. He won back-to-back road games to end the month, making 25 saves in a 4-0 win at Greenville on February 26 and 20 saves in a 6-3 win at Trenton on February 28.
Under contract to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League, the 26-year-old Meyer has also played three games with Hartford of the American Hockey League in 2002-03, going 1-2-0. In his second professional season, Meyer was 14-10-5 with a 2.72 goals against average in 30 games with Charlotte in 2001-02. He also played with Hartford of the AHL in 2001-02 going 4-4-2 with a 2.14 goals against average and a .921 save percentage in 13 regular season games.
He played five seasons in the NCAA at St. Cloud State going 20-8-3 with a 2.87 goals against average and a .920 save percentage in 1999-2000 and 25-8-1 with a 2.23 goals against average and a .925 save percentage in 2000-01.
