PCL1 Omaha Storm Chasers

Chasers Smash Cubs 7-2

August 26, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Storm Chasers first baseman Frank Schwindel and designated hitter Paulo Orlando each crushed home runs and right fielder Elier Hernandez posted four hits, while the Omaha bullpen duo of Josh Staumont and Kevin Lenik fired three and two-thirds perfect innings of relief in a 7-2 win in front of 7,222 fans on Sunday afternoon at Werner Park.

Schwindel started the Storm Chasers' scoring with a solo blast to left in the second for his team-best 23rd big fly and Pacific Coast League leading 57th extra-base hits of 2018. After Iowa grabbed a 2-1 advantage, Schwindel smashed a game-tying RBI double to left to even the contest at two. Omaha would then storm ahead courtesy of a four-run seventh highlighted by Orlando's three-run blast, his tenth longball of 2018. C Luis Villegas added insurance via an RBI single one frame later to cap the Storm Chasers' offensive output.

Hernandez (4-4, R) paced Omaha's offense with his four knocks, with Villegas (3-4, R, RBI) and Schwindel (2-4, R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) each tallying multiple hits as well. Iowa was held to three total hits, with no multi-hit efforts from the road side. Schwindel's sixth-inning two-bagger was his 34th of the season, placing him three shy of matching the Omaha franchise's single-season doubles record of 37.

For the second straight game, an Omaha starter took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning, though Glenn Sparkman (5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 5 K) did not ultimately factor in the final decision. Staumont (2.2 IP, 5 K) and Lenik (1.0 IP, 2 K) were excellent in support of Sparkman in their three-plus perfect frames, with Staumont earning his second victory. Iowa southpaw Brian Duensing (0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER) suffered the defeat.

The two teams complete their four-game set on Monday evening at Werner Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. RHP Arnaldo Hernandez (5-1, 3.23) is anticipated to get the nod for the Storm Chasers, with former Omaha RHP Luke Farrell (0-4, 4.01) expected to toe the rubber for Iowa.

Tickets are still available for all remaining 2018 Storm Chasers contests, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
