Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers and Colorado Springs Sky Sox meet for the third time in their four-game series at 6:05 p.m. on the final Chaparral Energy Family Sunday of the season at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...With 11 games remaining in the regular season, the Dodgers are a half-game ahead of second-place Colorado Springs in the American Northern Division standings.
Last Game: The Dodgers scored two runs with two outs in the seventh inning to break a tie on the way to a key 4-2 win against Colorado Springs Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Sky Sox took the game's first lead in the second inning when Andrés Blanco connected on a two-run homer. The Dodgers quickly responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs to knot the game. Edwin RÃos led off with a double for OKC and Will Smith followed with a walk. Both advanced a base on a groundout before Rocky Gale hit a RBI single. Jake Peter followed with a RBI groundout to make it 2-2. Dodgers starting pitcher Daniel Corcino followed with a single and Gale tried to score from second base on the play, but Gale was thrown out at home by center fielder Tyrone Taylor to keep the score tied. OKC broke the tie the seventh inning. With runners at the corners, Tim Locastro hit a RBI double to give the Dodgers the lead. Alex Verdugo followed with a RBI single to push the score to 4-2. Corcino allowed two runs and five hits over six innings with two walks and seven strikeouts. Reliever Stetson Allie (3-0) followed and picked up the win with a scoreless seventh inning. Joe Broussard pitched a scoreless eighth inning before Brian Schlitter closed out the game for his 19th save of the season. Colorado Springs reliever Nick Ramirez (3-3) was charged with the loss.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Kyle Lobstein (0-5) seeks his first win with OKC when he takes the mound for his sixth start...Lobstein last started Aug. 21 against Omaha in OKC, allowing six runs (two earned) and four hits over 4.2 innings with one walk and three strikeouts. After holding the Storm Chasers to two runs and three hits over four innings, Omaha pulled off an eight-run rally with two outs in the fifth inning, largely made possible by several Dodgers miscues. Lobstein was charged with the loss in OKC's eventual 13-2 defeat...Lobstein signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers June 22 and has also made seven starts for Double-A Tulsa, posting a 3-2 record and 2.56 ERA over 38.2 IP. He issued nine walks against 25 K's...He's allowed one homer in 23.0 IP with OKC and just four homers between Tulsa and OKC (61.2 IP)...Lobstein started the season with Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican Baseball League, making 11 starts and going 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA. He tied for the team lead in innings and starts and held opponents to two runs or less in 10 starts...Lobstein made his MLB debut Aug. 23, 2014 with Detroit against Minnesota and has made 34 MLB appearances (17 starts) for Detroit (20 games) and Pittsburgh (14 games), going a combined 6-10 with a 5.06 ERA over 128.0 IP with 49 walks and 74 K's...He was originally selected by Tampa Bay in the second round (47th overall) of the 2008 MLB Draft from Coconino High School (Ariz.)...Tonight is his fifth career appearance against Colorado Springs. He made four relief appearances against the Sky Sox last season with New Orleans, allowing two runs and six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts over 6.1 IP.
Against the Sky Sox: 2018: 4-5 2017: 4-12 All-time: 102-87 At OKC: 60-34
The top two teams in the American Northern Division meet for a pivotal four-game series, facing off for the first time since mid-May...After the Dodgers won the first three meetings this season, the Sky Sox have taken five of the last six, including three wins by one run...Colorado Springs won a rain-shortened May 12-14 at home, 3-0, after the Dodgers won the first series, 3-1, May 4-7 in OKC...Through nine games, the Dodgers own a slight edge in both runs, 33-31, and hits, 72-69...Jake Peter has paced the OKC offense, going 13-for-32 with six RBI and seven runs scored...Colorado Springs won 12 of 16 meetings last season, as the Sky Sox collected more than eight wins in a season against OKC for the first time since the teams started playing in 1998. It was also just the second time in OKC's modern PCL era the team lost 12 games in the same season against one opponent (6-12 vs. Nashville in 2007)...The teams have finished in the top two spots in the division in each of the last two seasons and one or both teams have been in first place every game this season.
Quiet Riot: The Dodgers tallied seven hits last night, marking the 12th straight game the team has finished a game with nine or fewer hits. During that time, the Dodgers are batting .212 (81x382), including .224 (22x98) with runners in scoring position. They have scored 42 runs during the stretch (3.5 rpg), and although the hits have not been plentiful, they have managed to tally at least five runs in five of the last nine games...The lack of offensive production has also been prevalent at home of late. In the team's last 17 home games, the Dodgers have batted just .232 (127x547) and have scored a total of 60 runs, with two or fewer runs seven times. That includes a .241 clip with RISP (35x145).
Along the RÃos Grande: Edwin RÃos doubled last night for his team-leading 25th hit of the month of August, and over his last five games, RÃos is 7-for-17 (.412). Over his last seven games, he is 9-for-23 with three doubles, a homer, five RBI and four runs scored...His 23 total doubles this season are tied for second-most among Dodgers players, one shy of team leader Kyle Farmer's 24 doubles.
Race for the Batting Title: Alex Verdugo hit a RBI single last night for his second hit over the last two games following an 0-for-13 drought over his five games prior to Friday - his longest streak without hit in his two Triple-A seasons...Verdugo is just 2-for-his-last-23, resulting in a 16-point dip in his batting average. He now ranks tied for second in the PCL with a .330 batting average - two points behind leader Jose Fernandez of Salt Lake (.332)...No OKC player has won the PCL batting title since the team reentered the league in 1998.
Schlitt's Malt Liquor: Over his last five appearances, reliever Brian Schlitter has retired 15 of 17 batters faced with three strikeouts. He's notched saves each of his last three games, bringing his season total up to 19 --- second in the PCL. It's the most saves recorded by an OKC pitcher since 2012 (Jose Valdez, 21) and third-most in a single season in the team's PCL era (since 1998).
Starting Line: Through nine games on the current homestand, the starting rotation has combined for a 2.36 ERA (13 ER/49.2 IP) and held opponents to a .242 batting average (44x182) with four home runs and 37 strikeouts against 10 walks. No starter has allowed more than two earned runs and the unit has combined for a 3-1 record.
Around the Horn: Last night was the team's 40th home win of the season, marking the 14th time in 21 seasons at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark the team has notched at least 40 wins...Tim Locastro has been hit by pitch in four straight games and 17 times this month --- more than any other player in the Majors or Minors. His 27 total HBP's between OKC and the AZL Dodgers rank second among all players in the Majors or Minors. Only Travis Jones of High-A Wilmington has been plunked more often (32)...The Dodgers have scored in the first or second inning in five straight games well as seven of the last eight.
