Iowa Cubs News Release
PAPILLION, NE - The Omaha Storm Chasers (61-70) posted a four-run seventh to sink the Iowa Cubs (47-83) 7-2, Sunday at Werner Park.
The Storm Chasers took the first edge on a Frank Schwindel solo shot in the second. Kyle Ryan's outing was otherwise nearly flawless as he limited Omaha to the sole run through 5.0 frames. He served up just four hits, walked none and fanned four.
The I-Cubs' offense was stifled, getting held hitless through 5.1 by Glenn Sparkman. Chris Coghlan broke the no-hitter with a double to spur a scoring drive for Iowa. Taylor Davis roped an RBI single to lock the game, before Mike Freeman gave Iowa the lead with an RBI double. The trio of hits in the inning were the only base-knocks on the day for the I-Cubs.
Omaha tied the game once again with a sixth-inning run and took charge in the seventh, getting four runs on four hits. Rehabbing Brian Duensing (L, 0-1) was tagged with three runs in the inning as Omaha started with one run on three hits off the lefty. Allen Webster took over with two outs and let two inherited runners score on a Paulo Orlando homer.
The Storm Chasers added an insurance run in the eighth to cruise to victory. Josh Staumont (2-5) earned the win with five strikeouts across 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.
Iowa and Omaha meet for the final time of 2018 tomorrow at Werner Park for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. Infielder Kris Bryant and righty Tyler Chatwood are expected to begin rehab assignments with the I-Cubs. Follow the action on AM 940 or www.iowacubs.com.
