Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Omaha Storm Chasers lost, 6-3, to the Toledo Mud Hens on Sunday at Fifth Third Field, dropping their third straight game to lose the series while falling into a tie for first place in the Midwest Division. Omaha (44-32), which had held sole possession of first place since May 26, is now tied for first in the division with Toledo (44-32).
The Chasers scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning against right-hander Wladimir Pinto. Left-fielder Rudy Martin drew a leadoff walk, moved to third on an errant pickoff throw, and scored on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Nick Pratto to give Omaha an early 1-0 lead.
Right-hander Brandon Barker stranded four runners through three scoreless innings before allowing two runs in the fourth. With runners on second and third, JaCoby Jones lined a single off the top of the left-field fence to bring in Yariel Gonzales and Jacob Robson before being thrown out at second base.
Omaha tied the game in the fifth against right-hander Alex Lange (Win, 1-1). Pratto hit a grounder to second with the bases loaded and one out, but shortstop Cole Peterson dropped the ball trying to complete a relay throw to first for a double play, allowing Pratto to reach safely and second baseman Angelo Castellano to score the tying run.
Castellano finished the game 3-for-3 with three singles and walk, recording his second three-hit game of the series.
The Mud Hens took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth against right-hander Jake Newberry (Loss, 1-4). Newberry allowed a leadoff double to Juan Centeno, who scored two batters later on an RBI single by Kody Clemens. Later in the inning with two outs, the Mud Hens tacked on three more runs on a single by Gonzalez, an RBI double by Robson, and an RBI single by Jones to take a 6-2 lead.
The Storm Chasers plated a run in the ninth on an RBI double by Martin before shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. struck out looking to end the game.
