Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
The West Virginia Power announced today that the Cross Lanes/Nitro Challenger League will play a baseball game at Appalachian Power Park following Sunday's 2:05 PM game against Delmarva. Members of the league will take the field alongside West Virginia Power players. This is the third consecutive year for the event.
The league is comprised of children with mental or physical disabilities and combines occupational therapy with baseball to improve motor, cognitive, and social skills. The players range from 5 to 21 years of age. The league has two teams that play against each other twice a week at Andrew Jackson Middle School in Cross Lanes; however they do not keep score. The teams are coached by Mary Hager, an occupational therapist for Kanawha County Schools.
Each week volunteers assist the players during the game. Sunday's game will feature the assistance of several West Virginia Power players.
