Hickory Crawdads News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - The first-place Hickory Crawdads scored a season-high seven runs in the sixth inning en route to the 11-3 victory against the Greensboro Grasshoppers before 5,463 fans at NewBridge Bank Park on Wednesday evening. OF Jared Prince led the attack with five RBIs, including a grand slam.
The Crawdads (21-12) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead through the first two innings against Greensboro starter RHP Erick Carrillo (0-3). Prince and CF Miguel Velazquez, the South Atlantic League Player of the Week, hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the first, and SS Leury Garcia added an RBI double in the second.
After Greensboro (14-19) struck for a run in the fourth, the 'Dads blew the game open in the sixth. LF Joe Bonadonna, 2B Edwin Garcia and SS Leury Garcia all hit singles to load the bases with no one out. Prince then unloaded the bases with the grand slam, making it 8-1. Velazquez followed with a single to chase LHP Annillins Martinez from the game before he retired a single out. RHP Natividad Dilone took over and issued consecutive walks to C Vinny DiFazio and DH Taylor Vail, loading the bases with still no one out. A 3B Matt West sacrifice fly, an RBI grounder by RF/1B Ed Koncel and a Greensboro error accounted for the next three runs, leaving Hickory ahead 11-1 after five and a half frames.
Greensboro scored one in the seventh and the eighth against RHP Kyle Ocampo, but LHP Chad Bell and RHP Trevor Hurley both pitched a scoreless inning to nail down the 11-3 win. Font earned the victory for Hickory, while Carrillo was tagged with the loss for Greensboro.
